Gillenwater, Huls, Wenig continue winning streaks at Lee County

DONNELLSON, Iowa (August 3, 2012) – Another great night of racing action was put into the books on Friday at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, IA, as it was KILJ and Coor’s Light Night at the races. Also it was Family Motors Fan Appreciation Night, with many fans stopping by their used dealership in West Burlington to pick up FREE tickets. Abe Huls (Donnellson Tire IMCA Stock Cars), Jim Gillenwater (Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA SportMods) and Jake Wenig (Coor’s Light LCS Hobby Stocks) extended their winning streaks with feature wins in their respective classes, while Wyatt Lantz (Budweiser IMCA Modifieds) and Rob Hammel (Sunline Auto Parts IMCA Sport Compacts) also visited victory lane on the night.

Veloz Cashes In at the Lee County Speedway

DONNELLSON, Iowa (July 27, 2012) – The Mohrfeld Electric $1,000 to win Modified Shootout that was rained out back on April 13th was rescheduled and ran this Friday, July 27th at the Lee County Speedway. At the end of some great racing action Milo Veloz (Budweiser IMCA Modifieds), Abe Huls (Donnellson Tire IMCA Stock Cars), Jim Gillenwater (Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA SportMods), Jake Wenig (Coor’s Light LCS Hobby Stocks), Chase Flatt (Mod Lites) and Anthony Cassat (Sunline Auto Parts IMCA Sport Compacts) all visited victory lane.

Conn Communications, US Cellular Night produces a career first time winner at LCS
DONNELLSON, Iowa (July 20, 2012) – A busy Friday night at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa on Conn Communication and US Cellular Night, with many prizes given away including 9 pairs of tickets to the August 4th NASCAR Nationwide race at the Iowa Speedway. The on track action produced one first career first time winner and four repeat winners, as Tyler Cale (Budweiser IMCA Modifieds), Jason Cook (Donnellson Tire IMCA Stock Cars), Jim Gillenwater (Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA SportMods), Jake Wenig (Coor’s Light LCS Hobby Stocks), and Anthony Cassat (Sunline Auto Parts IMCA Sport Compacts) visited victory lane.

Repeat winners at the Lee County Speedway with exception of Smith
DONNELLSON, Iowa (Friday, June 8, 2012) – It was Arrowhead Bowl Fan Appreciation Night at the the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, IA, with all fans getting in for just $5 and a candy dash for the kids at intermission. The weather provided a perfect night for racing with four repeat winners Tyler Cale (IMCA Modifieds), Matt Greiner (IMCA Stock Cars), Jim Gillenwater (IMCA SportMods) and Jake Wenig (LCS Hobby Stocks) in victory lane, while Darin Smith (IMCA Sport Compacts) was a new winner on the night.
The first feature on the night was the 15 lap Donnellson Tire IMCA Stock Cars, with Derek St. Clair and Cale Samberg on the front row. Samberg would take advantage of his front row starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over John Oliver Jr. and St. Clair. While Samberg worked to hold back Oliver Jr., Matt Greiner, who started 7th, was working his way towards the front. But the action up front was slowed for the first and only caution of the event on lap 5. Joe Gerdes spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Samberg jumped back out front, but now had Greiner on his back bumper. Samberg, who was working the top of the track, and Greiner, who was on the bottom, raced the next 9 laps side-by-side with Samberg edging Greiner out at the line each lap. But Greiner would come off of turn 4 for the white flag and was able to edge out in front of Samberg to take over the top spot on lap 14. Greiner then held off Samberg on the final lap to claim his third win of the season at the track. Samberg was 2nd, Oliver Jr. was 3rd, Jeff Mueller came from 8th to finish in 4th, with Abe Huls rounding out the top 5.

Savage, Wilson, Wenig get first LCS wins of 2012
DONNELLSON, Iowa (Friday, June 1, 2012) – Friday night was another regular points night at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa, as it was Casey’s General Stores Night at the track. When the early night came to an end, 9:35 p.m., Brandon Savage (IMCA Modifieds), Vance Wilson (IMCA SportMods) and Jake Wenig (LCS Hobby Stocks) pick up there first wins of the season at the speedway. While Matt Greiner (IMCA Stock Cars) got his second win of the season and Chuck Fullenkamp (IMCA Sport Compacts) picked up his third win of the season at the track.
The first feature of the night was the Sunline Auto Parts IMCA Sport Compact 12 lap feature, with C.J. Loring and Dakota Anderson leading the field to the green. Loring would take advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1 over William Michel and Brandon Lambert. Loring then held the top spot until lap 5, when Chuck Fullenkamp, who started 6th, jumped to his outside to grab the lead away. Fullenkamp then pulled away over the final 7 laps, in a caution free race, to claim his third win of the season at the track. Lambert held on for 2nd, Michel was 3rd, Nick Wilkerson came from 8th to finish in 4th, with Darin Smith rounding out the top 5.

“Together We Fight Hunger 25 For 35″ in honor of Brian Hetrick goes to Parrish
DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 25, 2012) – Hy-Vee of Ft. Madison and Keokuk, Coor’s Light and Midwest Performance brought the “Together We Fight Hunger 25 For 35″ in honor of Brian Hetrick, that was supposed to be ran in mid-April, to the Lee County Speedway on Friday. When the night ended Justin Parrish ended up in victory lane and took home the $1,000 top prize for the 305 Sprints.
The first feature to take to the track on the night was the 15 lap Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA SportMods, with Kevin Cale and Levi Smith on the front row. Smith would take advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1 over Cale. But on the completion of lap 1 Jay Kirchner would spin in turn 3 to bring out the first of four cautions on the lap. On the restart Brandon Ruffcorn spun in turn 2 to bring the yellow light back on. Then Kirchner would spin in turn 1 on the next restart to bring the caution out for his second solo to end his night. On the next restart Mitchell Boles spun in 4 and collected Jim Kuhlmeier to bring the yellow light back on. Smith would jump back out front on the next restart, with John Oliver Jr. over taking Cale for 2nd. While Smith worked to hold back Oliver Jr., Scott VanBuskirk was working his way to the front from his 9th place starting spot. The action up front was slowed once again on lap 12, as Ruffcorn spun in turn 4 for his second solo to his his night. On the restart VanBuskirk slid up in front of Smith coming off turn 4 to grab the top spot, as Smith ran into the back of VanBuskirk and lost control of his machine and spinning down the front stretch to bring out the final caution. VanBuskirk would hold on over the green-white-checkered finish to pick up his first win of the season at the track. Oliver Jr. settled for 2nd, Tony Dunker came from 10th to finish in 3rd, Cale was 4th, with Phillip Cossel rounding out the top 5.
