“I’ve been going to the races with my parents since I was born. I traveled around with three uncles that raced throughout central Illinois as a kid. When I was ten, I started going to the races at Donnellson every week. I went several seasons without ever missing a race. Once I got my drivers license I went to Donnellson, 34 Raceway, and Quincy weekly. The year before I married my wonderful wife we went to 107 races at 22 tracks in one season. My favorite driver who is also my best friend is Jim Gillenwater in the #10 Modified. I help him on his car when I can and when we aren’t racing were fishing catfish tournaments throughout the midwest. This is Jim’s farewell season. Jim is donating his winnings to five different causes this year. One sponsor, St. Louis Gear, is donating to St. Judes Children’s Research. Another sponsor, Conn Communications, is donating to the International Polio Rotary Association. Midwest coins is donating to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America. Pit Lane with Dave Jones is donating winnings to Keokuk Athletic Boosters. Jim is also donating his portion to the American Lung Association. It’s good to call him a friend”, says Calvin Meyer.
There is also a Bar Crawl on Saturday night that the racers and fans can catch up with after the races. Calvin’s wife Annie Meyer will be in attendance on Saturday night.

Gustin, Huls, Lowry, Kincaid and Gates Top Night 2 of “2nd Annual Spring Extravaganza” at the Lee County Speedway
The first feature to take to the track was the 14 lap Sunline Auto Parts Sport Compact feature, with Josh Barnes and Brandon Lambert drawing the front row for the event. But it was fourth place starter Adam Gates who grabbed the lead on lap 1 over Barnes and Brannon Bechen. While Gates started to pull away, the battle for second was heating up. Bechen, Kimberly Abbott, who started 7th, Chuck Fullenkamp, and Austen Becerra, who started 9th, were racing side-by-side for the runner up spot. But by the time they settled that position, Gates pulled away in the caution free race to claim the $300 win. Bechen won the battle for 2nd, Abbott was 3rd, Becerra was 4th, with Fullenkamp coming home in 5th.
The first feature up on the night was the 18 lap Shottenkirk Parts Express SportMod feature, with Brett Lowry and Carter VanDenBerg, the 2013 track champion, drawing the front row for the event. Lowry would take advantage of his front row start to jump out into the lead on lap 1 over VanDenBerg and Cory VanZante. Just after the completion of lap 1 the first and only caution of the event appeared, as Brandon Lennox, Bobby Six, and Jim Brown spun down the front stretch. On the restart Lowry moved back out front, with VanDenBerg working to hold back VanZante and Sean Wyett, who started 7th. While Lowry started to pull away the battle for second heated up, as VanDenBerg, VanZante, Wyett, Tony Dunker, who started 11th, Vance Wilson, who started 12th, and Ryan Fullenkamp, who started 26th, battled it out. Lowry would go on to lead all 18 laps to pick up the win and the $500 check to go with it. VanDenBerg won the battle for 2nd, VanZante was 3rd, Wyett was 4th, with Dunker rounding out the top 5.
